WATCH Rojava, utopia in the heart of Syrian chaos

http://www.kedistan.net/2017/10/08/rojava-utopie-chaos-syrien/

Orient XXI, the online magazine "Orient of Morocco to Afghanistan", has just published a video made by Mireille Court, who visited Rojava this summer.

She was accompanied by Chris Den Hond, journalist, and also one of the authors of the collective work "La Commune du Rojava, alternative to the nation-state" that we presented when it was also published on our pages.

This film is the video version of the report published in Le Monde Diplomatique of September 2017 under the same title.

If journalists who seek to understand for themselves, by convictions, did not carry out these reports, on complicated back and forth, by blockades, wars and permanent threats, arrests in neighboring countries (Iraqi Kurdistan or Turkey), we would only have images and texts of propaganda or "spectacular" images of the war.

The ongoing political process in northern Syria, and Rojava at the heart of this democratic federation, are islands of democratic life in an ocean of wars and clashes around. Documenting this reality, giving it a critical approach with an outsider, but not without prior knowledge of all political issues, is essential.

Other journalists, whether inscribed or not, have the same approach to other territory of a Kurdistan that goes from Syria to Iran, including Turkey and Iraq. To give to see, to reveal, other than the myth of the great Kurdistan on paper, another version of the "Turkish Nation" and its imposed Turkishness, the nationalist option of a Barzani, repressed fight of the Kurds of Iran , all this takes part in the information and the political debate in the European countries saturated by the polished discourse and images.

Because Kedistan would not live without being able to also support this real network of journalists of conviction, we try whenever possible to give us the relay of their approach.
Fortunately, we are not the only ones.

It should also be pointed out that in Turkey, for example, other journalists, with or without a card, who often do not have the media coverage of famous exiles, carry out this alternative information work under constant repression. Many of them were incarcerated for this.
Objectivity is not in the agreed silence slipped between words, but in the convinced examination of reality, knowing what one is looking for.
Duration 45 min. Shot in July 2017.

"We do not want an independent Kurdistan for the Kurds, but a democratic and pluralist federation for everyone"
