Charitable organizations in Westchester and Putnam counties stand to lose more than $80 million dollars in donations because of tax reform bills currently under consideration in Washington, D.C. These bills would eliminate the charitable deduction for more than 31 million taxpayers nationwide.

The United Way of Westchester and Putnam is very concerned that this loss will have a serious impact on the ability of these organizations to fund badly needed services to private food banks, homeless and domestic violence shelters, and day care and job training programs. Hardest hit would be faith-based, disaster-relief and other charities that rely heavily on gifts from the same middle-class donors who will lose their deduction if the current legislation passes...
