The least of many #Trump evils in the short term but harmful in the long-term culturally. He's killed what made politics interesting.
There is no scandal now. Scandal involves political damage and consequences. Seemingly nothing Trump does could destroy him with the base
Integral to democratic politics is the uncertainty, suspense, the conditional contingencies where people and movements are made or lost.
But what would have sunk or destroyed any candidate or politician in the 20th century is now irrelevant. There is no depth and no arbiter
Insulting POWs. Mocking gold star families. Pyramid schemes, bankruptcies, a scam university. Changing rooms. Nothing Trump does matters.
There's a depressing nihilism to it. Normal political life is over, the rulebooks burned, the playing-fields deserted to nature.
Democracy lacks the idiotic, fanatic bliss of an intoxicating totalisation narrative. But it had a logic and things to be passionate for.
In the post-Trump future, there will be no soul-searching over a future Watergate. If Trump voters don't care about Russian involvement, then politicians may do anything they like. The rage and vendettas of the tribe are all that will matter. We lose the will to care.
